Short description:
Parawinging is a new water sport that combines kiteboarding, winging, and foiling. Riders use a parawing that can be stowed away, allowing them to keep pumping the foil and riding waves.

What you’ll learn:

  • Using the parawing on land and understanding the wind window
  • Pumping the board and foil to get riding
  • Practicing on a downwind board vs. a larger beginner board
  • Foil size differences and learning recommendations
  • Flying the parawing in the water without the board
  • Taxiing on your knees and standing up while balancing the wing
  • How the bar works for riding
  • Common beginner challenges and how to overcome them

Lesson details:

  • Requires at least 15 knots of consistent wind
  • Typically takes 3–5 lessons to learn
  • Flat-water location only, during high tide
  • Locations: Messick Point in Poquoson or Mill Creek at Fort Monroe
  • Wetsuits and booties required
  • All gear, wetsuits, and booties included
  • Helmets and life jackets are mandatory
  • Declaration of fitness and waiver forms must be signed on the site

Lesson options:

  • 2-hour lesson: Focuses mainly on theory and building basic parawinging skills
  • 4–6 hour lesson: More time on the water and better for developing solid riding skills and standing on the board

Beginner progression:
Start with a 3m parawing. In lighter wind, a 5.2m or 7.3m parawing can be used.
